Abstract
This research is entitled Public Relations Management in maintaining the image of railroad transportation with the subtitle (Descriptive qualitative study at PT KAI Operation Area 3 Cirebon). This study aims to determine and describe how management planning is carried out by Public Relations of PT KAI Daop 3 Cirebon as a form of effort in maintaining the image of railroad transportation, in the midst of various negative issues / opinions in the safety aspect experienced by trains. Researchers used the theory of the four-step Public Relations process according to Cutlip, Center, and Broom (Fact Finding, Planning, Communicating, and Evaluating) to raise questions and analyze research results. Researchers used a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data collection procedures are obtained through observation interview techniques, and documentation. The informants in this study were 2 Key Informants of the Manager and Public Relations Staff of PT KAI Daop 3 Cirebon, 1 Academic Informant, and 7 Core Informants of train service users in the Daop 3 Cirebon area. The data analysis design with data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study stated that the Public Relations of PT KAI Daop 3 Cirebon carried out quite good planning in an effort to maintain the image of rail transportation. The steps taken are also in accordance and correlate with the four-step Public Relations process theory. At the Fact Finding step, public relations tries to find various issues/opinions related to the company by conducting media monitoring utilizing print, online, and social media as material for planning. The Planning Step of Public Relations makes a program in the form of socialization activities at railway crossings and online publication activities. Communicating Step, Public Relations tries to convey messages/communications that are persuasive in each program by involving internal and external publics. Evaluating Step, public relations is able to measure the extent to which the planning/program has been successful, and make the evaluation data obtained part of the next Fact Finding step.
