Abstract
The tittle of this research is “An analysis of Conflict of British Broadcast Council (BBC)News Story entittled “when a House Stops being Home”. The objective of the study areto find the kind of conflictand the structurein BBC news story When a House Stops being Home. The researcher analyze four stories in differrent characters. They are Valerie, Rachel, Nancy, and Victoria.The structure of the story is analyzed into two part, literature and journalism. Then connected with percentage of abusive facts in United Kindomandusedpsychology literature as anapproach.To understand the content of this research, firstly people should understand the meaning of conflict. Conflict is the opposition between individuals and groupson the basis of competing interests, different identities, and/or different attitudes. The kind of conflict can be categorized into four groups. They are intrapersonal conflict (inner conflict), interpersonal conflict (someone with others), intergroup conflict (social conflict), intergroup conflict (group conflict). In addition to analyze the kind of conflict, the researcher also analyze cause, management, and result of conflict. Causeof conflict can be divided into seven groups. They are scarce resources, adversity, faulty communication, perceived differences, biology, environment, and health. Management conflict divided into two types. They are cooperativeness and assertiveness. Style that can used in management conflict divided to four groups. They are avoiding, competition, compromise, collaboration or problem solving and there are three strategies for overcoming conflicts, They are lose-lose strategy, win-lose strategy, and win-win strategy.The structure of the story is analyzed into two parts, journalism and literature. Non-fiction literary elements are divided into three. They are orientation, event sequence (cronology), and reorientation. Journalism has 5W+1H wich means who (character), what (plot), where (Setting), when (cronology), why (motif), how (naration). The researcher used qualitative method in analyzingthedata to solve the problems.In this paper, the researcher found 2 kind of conflicts and 4 cause of conflicts. Those are 2 intrapersonal (Inner conflict) and 2 interpersonal conflict. Thecauses of conflict are 2 adveristy, 1 perceived differences, and 1 Scarce sources. While the story structure are found in the sentences of different stories. Therefore,, the dominant conflict in the bbc news story “when a house stops being home” is intrapersonal conflict (inner conflict) and interpersonal conflict.Keyword:Conflict, Story Structure, News Story
