Abstract

Interference is the invasion of foreign languages into Indonesian. If this invasion is not handled properly it will disrupt the Indonesian language rules that have been maintained. Conversely, if the invasion of a foreign language is well maintained by a system that is told by linguists, it is hoped that it can enrich the vocabulary or style of language. This research entitled “An Analysis of English Interference into Indonesian (A Study Towards Pikiran Rakyat Online Newspaper)”. The aims of this present research is to analysis the kinds of English interferences into Indonesian that appears in Pikiran Rakyat online newspaper, the factors that cause the interference and also try to compare the interferences which appears with the standard Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia (KBBI) and the book of Pengindonesian Kata dan Ungkapan Asing (2005) second edition. The study uses the qualitative approach as a research design. The findings of this research reveal that there is lexical interference that appears 75 times and morphological interference appears only once. Hence, from five kinds of interferences, the writer only found two kinds of interferences. Furthermore, this study also shows the factors that cause interference which are the bilingualism of the user, the less loyalty of user using Indonesian language, the insufficient vocabularies of Indonesian language in the face of advancement and renewal, need for synonyms, disappearance of words that are rarely used, prestige of source language and tendency of transferring the mother tongue behavior .
