Abstract
This Paper tittled “The Patriarchy System in Children Literature” (A Study of HansChristian Andersen’s Literary Works. The study focused on children literature written on a booktittled Andersen’s Fairy Tales published by Wordsworth Classic. The writer found that Anderseninserted gender issue in form of Patriarchy systems in some of his fairy tales. These fairy tales arestill famous today. The writer uses feminist approach in this study. The method used in this paperis qualitative method since the data are words and the analysis is described. The fairy talesanalyzed by close reading technique. From the analysis the writer concludes that there are somePatriarchy systems in form of domination or control toward women. There are control of womansexuality, education, movement, father absolute control toward family member and patriarcalproduction mode. All of these controls mostly disadvantage women. There were also someparadigm emphasized to men, for if they are not following the paradigm, the patriarcal society willhumiliate them. Therefore, the writer concludes that Andersen fairy tales are need to be reviewed.Children should be guided by parents, adult or teachers on their reading process and parents, adultor teachers must know how are the criteria of good children literature.Key words:Children, Literature, Patriarchy System, Control, Women.
