Abstract

This research entitled “The Implementation of Mind Mapping Method in Teaching ReadingComprehension”. It conducts to see the effect of mind mapping as a learning method inteaching reading comprehension about descriptive text at Grade VIII inSMPN 48 Bandungdue to the background of the students’ ability in having a hard time to understand the texts asthey still have difficulties in reading comprehension which are dominates by the lack ofvocabularies. Mind Mapping in this research is expectedto improve the students’ readingability in comprehending the descriptive text. The researcher uses mix methods, namelyqualitative and quantitative to answer the research questions. Qualitative data obtained throughan interview, observations with the process of method implementation guided by field notes.Quantitative data obtained through the tests which are pre-test and post-test in the form ofmultiple choice, and the last is gave them a questionnaire. The implementation of mindmapping method in thisresearch shows an improvement in the percentage of students' readingcomprehension by 45% with an average of pre-test result as much as 55.78 before the treatmentand post-test 81.41 after the three times treatment. Students also give positive responses to themind mapping method after the implementation have been carried out.Key words:Mind Mapping, Reading Comprehension.
