Abstract

This research paper entitled “An Analysis of Problem Solving Method in Teaching Speaking at Eleventh Grade of BPI 2 Senior High School Bandung”. The purposes of this study are determined the procedure of problem solving method, kinds of media are used in teaching speaking, types of evaluation that applied in teaching speaking, the role of student and teacher, the learning result using problem solving method and to know responses of students and teacher after applying problem solving method in teaching speaking. This study is used qualitative method. The participant of the study was the class of eleventh grade of BPI 2 senior high school Bandung. The data was gained through an observation research, Pre-test, Post-test and interview. This study was conducted in two cycles. In cycle-1, the highest score of student’s group is 68 and the lowest score is 40. In cycle-2, the highest score of student’s group is 92 and the lowest score is 68. The highest score result of students Pre-test is 64 and the lowest score is 32. The highest score result of students Post-test is 92 and the lowest score is 52. The results showed that problem solving method can improve students' speaking ability. Furthermore, this method makes students active, particularly in learning and teaching activities, and makes livelier atmosphere, attractive and fun learning.
