Abstract

This research paper is entitled “Traumatic Experiences of Carrie White in Pearce’s Film ‘Carrie’: A Psychoanalysis Approach”. It examines about traumatic experiences of Carrie White, the main character in film. The film depicts the story of a young girl who is bullied and abused by her peers and her religiously fanatic mother. This research is aimed to provide a deep understanding about the traumatic experience of Carrie White are portrayed in the film ‘Carrie’ in the literary psychoanalysis perspective. This research uses qualitative descriptive approach for describing qualitative information and at the same time for clearly describing the problem being studied. Data analysis in this research uses content analysis technique and utilizes psychoanalysis theory by Sigmund Freud. The writer analyzes characterization of the main characters and then the traumatic experiences appear in the scenes based on the situation, time and location of the scene. Furthermore, it also provides dialogue analysis, which includes the analysis of dialogue, time, and location of the scene. From the result of the analysis, it can be concluded that there are many traumatic events faced by Carrie White are portrayed in Pearce’s film ‘Carrie’. Furthermore, several of factors contributed to her trauma, including impaired memory and concentration or speech disorder, feelings of guilty, fear and anxiety, speech disorder and silence, withdrawal from her environment.
