Abstract
This paper entitled “An Analysis of Language Style in Antoine de Saint Exupery: The Little Prince”. The objectives of this study are to describe the types of language style in novel The Little Prince and to find out the implicite denotative and connotative meaning in the language style already found. The study was conducted by using qualitative method. The data was analyzed by using Mandell and Kirszner (2003:17) to classified the language style and using William O’ Grady (1996:187) to describe the implicite connotative and denotative meaning. The source of the data are collected from the narration and the dialogue of all the characters from The Little Prince novel by Antoine de Saint Exupery. The four language style based on Mandell and Kirszner (2003:17) are Formal Style or Deliberative Style, Consultative Style, Colloquial Style, and Slang Style. From the 25 data found by the researches, there were 5 formal style or deliberative style, 8 consultative style, 6 colloquial style, and 0 slang style. Formal or deliberative style is found in the analysis since this language style support the context of subchapter of the novel when Little Prince meet a King. Consultative style is found in the analysis since this language style support the context of Little Prince who has curious characteristics towards others. And Colloquial style is found in the analysis to show the informal context of interaction between Little Prince and some of characters in subchapters. In which he always curious and asking about something he did not know towards other people that he meet. For the slang style, unfortunately the writer did not find that kind of language style in this novel. And from all the data has been found by the writer every data has a denotative and connotative implicit meaning. Keywords: Language Style, Novel, The Little Prince, Dennotative, and Connotative
