Abstract

This research discusses the meanings contained in the cigarette advertisement tagline. Every tagline created has its own meaning that is not realized by consumers. The reason why the writer wants to analyze cigarette tagline is because there are so many taglines with many products. But especially for cigarette advertisement there are many uniqueness in the tagline. Behind the uniqueness of cigarette tagline there are some meaning that explain another meaning. In conducting the research, the writer uses qualitative research methods, in qualitative research are divided into three parts, namely observation, interviews and documentation. In this research the writer chose to use the method of observation and documentation methods in conducting research. The writer limit her research to analyze the meaning of cigarette tagline advertisement in April, May and June 2019 as many as 10 cigarette advertisement from the Sampoerna TBK company consisting of: Dji Sam Soe, A Mild, U Mild, Magnum. From Gudang Garam TBK company consisting of: Gudang Garam International Filter, Gudang Garam has a subsidiary company called GG Mild with their product: GG Move. From PT Djarum Company consisting of : Djarum 76, L.A Lights, Djarum Super and from PT Bentoel is Dunhill Mild. The results of this study are of the ten taglines that have been analyzed there are five taglines that have connotation meanings and the whole tagline has denotation meaning. Those meaning are communication, expression, social control and social adaptation using Keraf theory. Keyword : Language, Semantic, Advertisement, Copywriting.
