Abstract

This study aims to analyze the framing of news coverage related to the “17+8” issue in online media CNN Indonesia and CNBC Indonesia. This research employs a qualitative approach using Erving Goffman’s framing analysis model. The focus of the study lies in how both media construct social reality through the selection of facts, the emphasis on certain aspects, and the use of language in presenting information to the public. The data consist of news texts published by CNN Indonesia and CNBC Indonesia concerning the “17+8” issue. Data collection was conducted through documentation, while data analysis followed the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate differences in framing between the two media in interpreting the issue. CNN Indonesia tends to frame the issue from the perspective of public interest and socio-political dynamics, whereas CNBC Indonesia emphasizes economic aspects and policy implications. These differences demonstrate that media are not neutral, but actively construct reality according to their perspectives and interests. Therefore, this study confirms that media framing plays a crucial role in shaping public perception of an issue. Keywords: Framing, Online Media, Social Construction of Reality, CNN Indonesia, CNBC Indonesia.
