Abstract

This research is a qualitative research with title "Representation of Father and Child Relations in Shelter Video Clips by Porter Robinson and Madeon." Shelter is a collaborative work between American and French EDM (Electric Dance Music) musicians, Porter Robinson & Madeon with Japanese Animation Studio, A-1 Pictures and legal anime streaming provider company, Cruchyroll. Shelter tells the story of Rin, a 17 year old girl who lives alone in a Simulation World. Rin eventually learns that she was put in the Simulation World in an emergency rescue pod by her father to escape the dangers threatening earth. Video clips are a medium, a work of art, and their existence is a phenomenon in today's society. Shelter itself is the first animated video clip published by an EDM musician, so the researcher chose Shelter by Porter Robinson and Madeon as the research object. The purpose of this study is to find out the message and meaning contained in the video clip scene of Shelter by Porter Robinson and Madeon in terms of denotation, connotation, and myth, and find out about the social reality contained in the video clip. The method used in this study uses qualitative research methods with Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis with the aim of analyzing the messages and meanings contained in the video clip Shelter by Porter Robinson and Madeon. The result obtained is (ISI). The Shelter video clip is related to social reality so that there is a moral message that can be taken and used as a lesson from this video clip.
