Abstract

This study is called “The Implementation of Roleplaying Method in Teaching Recount Text in SMP Negeri 29 Bandung Grade VIII A”. The main objective of this study is to find out whether the Role-Playing method through speaking is able to teach recount text to the students effectively. According to Brown and Abeywickrama (2006), role-play is a popular pedagogical activity in communicative language-teaching classes. Moreover, Budden (2004) defined role-play as any speaking activity when your either put yourself in somebody else‟s shoes or when you stay in your own shoes but put yourself into an imaginary situation. This study was conducted in VIII-A class of 29 Junior High School Bandung, the academic year 2018-2019. The writer used a descriptive�qualitative method in analyzing the data. The instruments that the writer used in conducting this study are observation sheets, field notes, tests, and interviews. Based on the observation sheets and field notes the writer figured out the procedures to implement this method and the teaching equipment used in the classroom. Meanwhile, based on the tests that are conducted on 35 population figure of students, this study figured that the role-playing method of teaching is able to increase the student‟s overall tests score by the improvement of 5.4%. Then from the interview, the writer also got a lot of positive responds toward the advantages of implementing the role-playing method through speaking activity in teaching recount text to the students.
