Abstract

A literary work, especially film, always has own message to convey to the audience. Film as a medium to convey messages has an important role in educating the audience who watch the film. In this paper, the writer conducted a research about An Analysis of Moral Message Represented by the Character Andy in the Shawshank Redemption Movie. There are several reasons why the writer chose the movie as the object of research, one of them is because the movie is no less interesting than the novel if it is analyzed and based on the film "The Shawshank Redemption" is a drama film with lots of educational meaning in the main character. A moral message is a message delivered or a lesson learned from a story or event. The author conducts research by watchi ng at the film "The Shawshank Redemption" from the beginning to the end, then treating the film, indexing, classifying data, interpreting data and then analyzing it before a conclusion. The author uses qualitative analysis in this study. The researcher als o uses a structural approach in analyzing the intrinsic elements of the characters in the film. The result of findings in this research showed that are ten moral messages as the following: 1)Kindheartedness, 2)Friendly 3)Maintain self - esteem despite the li ves of the stakes, 4)Be calm even when under pressure, 5)Utilize the skill and intelligence we have, 6)Brave to take a good chance, 7)Presistence and never give up, 8)Tell the truth even though no one believes, 9)Recognizing mistakes and make them life les sons, 10)Hope.
