Abstract

The title of this paper is “The Use of Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) in Improving Students’ Reading Skill”. This study is a descriptive study of seventh grade student at SMPN 11 Bandung academic year 2014-2015. The objective of this study is to investigate the use of Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) in teaching reading to the VII.4 class of SMPN 11 Bandung. The teacher as researcher conduct this study three times of meeting, first day for pre-test, second day for treatment and last day for post-test. Some numerical data are described using descriptive analysis. The data are collected from observation and test. The teacher as researcher is observed by English teacher in order to know the procedure and assessment of researcher in teaching reading using Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) method. The findings in this study clearly found that the use of Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) is significantly improves the students’ skills in reading. It can be seen by the mean of pre-test score 58.205 and post-test score 72.436, so the improvement is 14.231. After analyzing by significant test the difference between pre-test and post-test score is 7.369, based on the table of t value, t0.05 t value = 2.042, is significant.
