Abstract

Title: An Analysis of English Speaking Ability and Performance of the hosts at Saung Angklung Udjo The writer’s reason in choosing this title is to analyze Saung Angklung Udjo as tourist attraction in different point of view. The writer thought that there are many things that can be analyzed at Saung Angklung Udjo. The writer finally chose the hosts at Saung Angklung Udjo as population and sample for his research paper. This research paper mainly analyzed the English speaking ability and performance of the hosts at Saung Angklung Udjo. The research problems of this study are about how are the English speaking abilities of the hosts and how are the performances of the hosts at Saung Angklung Udjo. The writer analyzed the English speaking ability of the hosts in the terms of accuracy (vocabulary, grammar, and pronounciation) and fluency aspects. Besides, the writer also analyzed their performance in bringing an event, such as appearance, attitude, mastery of the event material, mastery of the audience, and mastery of the stage. Research method used in this research is qualitative method. It is related to the general purpose of the study to define and describe the research. In this research design, the writer conducted the research through the descriptive research, where in descriptive research processing of data more describe in words or sentences. Although there is the data in numeral form, it just takes a conclusion from data numeral process that was found. The procedures of data collection were observation, interview, and questionnaire. Based on the observation, the writer found that there were some mistakes in speaking English in the terms of accuracy (vocabulary, grammar, and pronounciation) and fluency aspects, but they only made few mistakes. In the performance aspects, the writer found that they could bring an event well, the things that make differences between hosts were about their musical knowledge (musical scale codes and musical notes) and ability to play angklung. The result of questionnaire’s distribution about the English speaking ability and performance of the hosts was also getting good assessment from the respondents (foreign tourists). The respondents’ assessment indicated that performance aspect got higher score than English speaking ability aspect. The writer also got additional data from interview. Overall, the writer concluded that the English speaking ability and performance of the hosts at Saung Angklung Udjo were good. The writer hopes this research paper could be a reference in producing better research paper to the further researcher. Then for the hosts at Saung Angklung Udjo, although they have good English speaking ability and performance, they have to keep improving their ability and performance.
