Abstract

This research is entitled The Implementation of Mind Mapping Method in Teaching Writing Descriptive Text in Improving Student Writing Skills. The researcher chooses this topic because student had difficulty starting to write a descriptive text. Some the factors that make them difficult to write a descriptive text such as determine the vocabulary, they cannot determine the topic to be written and others. The research was conducted at Binadharma 3 Junior High School of Bandung. In class 7 B which has total of 20 students. Mind Mapping in this research is expected to improve the students’ writing ability in comprehending and writing the descriptive text. The researcher uses a descriptive qualitative method to answer the research question. For the data collection process, researcher conducted several methodssuch as observation, pre-test and post-test, and questionnaire. The implementation of mind mapping method in this research shows the students average in the post-test have increased than the pre-test. The average of post- test is 7.69 whereas the average of pre-test is 5.7. In this case, the researcher has found that the implementing Mind mapping method on writing descriptive text can improve student ability in writing descriptive text. The students also give positive responses to the mind mapping method after the implementation have been carried out. Keywords: Mind Mapping, Writing descriptive text.
