Abstract
Music videos are a form of mass media that serve not only as a means of entertainment but also as a medium for conveying messages through various visual and audio cues. One music video worth analyzing is Rony Parulian’s Pesona Sederhana, as it portrays simple love through visual symbols that build meaning in each scene. This study aims to identify the denotative and connotative meanings and to uncover the myths present in Rony Parulian’s music video Pesona Sederhana. This study employs a qualitative approach using Roland Barthes’s semiotic analysis method. Data were collected through observation of the music video, documentation, and literature review. The analysis focused on eleven scenes selected for their representation of the theme of simple love. The data were analyzed through Roland Barthes’s three levels of meaning: denotation, connotation, and myth. The research findings show that, at the denotative level, the music video presents a series of scenes depicting the male protagonist’s emotional journey as he expresses his feelings to the woman he loves. At the connotative level, various visual cues represent sincerity, attentiveness, the courage to express feelings, togetherness, hope, longing, and selflessness as forms of simple love. Meanwhile, at the mythical level, the music video conveys the view that sincere love is not always expressed through luxury or verbal expressions, but rather through care, communication, body language, patience, and simple actions that reflect affection. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that Rony Parulian’s music video Pesona Sederhana successfully represents the meaning of simple love through visual symbols analyzed using Roland Barthes’s semiotics, thereby conveying the understanding that love can be expressed through sincerity, care, and togetherness in everyday life.
