Abstract

This study aims to explore and describe the use of the social media platform TikTok among housewives in Cicaheum Subdistrict, Bandung City. The increasing trend of TikTok usage among housewives indicates a shift in daily entertainment patterns, which previously were dominated by routine household activities. The research employs a qualitative phenomenological approach, drawing on Alfred Schutz's theories, emphasizing the subjective understanding of individual experiences in social life. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews with several active TikTok users who are housewives, supplemented by observations and documentation. Data analysis was performed by identifying action motives based on Schutz's concepts of because motive (causal motive) and in-order-to motive (goal motive). The research results show that TikTok is not only used as a means of entertainment, but is interpreted as a form of release from boredom from domestic routines, a means of filling free time, and a medium for obtaining information and inspiration. The motives found include boredom, the need for easily accessible entertainment, and the influence of the social environment. Meanwhile, the motives of purpose include the desire to obtain pleasure, relaxation, and even economic opportunities through digital content. In addition, TikTok also forms new virtual social interactions that expand the social experience of housewives. Thus, the use of TikTok among housewives does not only function as entertainment, but also has a broader meaning in the lives of housewives, namely as a medium for self- expression, a source of information, and a means of building social connections in the digital era.
