Abstract

This research analyzes the narrative structure of Ardan Radio’s horror program Nightmare Side, one of the most popular late-night broadcasts in Bandung. The study aims to identify how storylines and narrative elements are constructed to create tension and fear in audio-based storytelling. A qualitative method with narrative analysis is applied to examine seven episodes: “Perempuan di Cipaganti”, “Jalur Pendakian Tangkuban Parahu”, “Perjalanan Seram di Pangalengan”, “Jembatan Pasupati”, “Suatu Hari di Gegerkalong”, “Komplek Angker Daerah Bandung Timur”, and “Apartemen Horor di Jatinangor”. The analysis focuses on intrinsic elements such as plot, characters, setting, and themes, which are then connected to the broader cultural context of oral storytelling and radio performance. Particular attention is given to how narration, language style, and dramatic pauses contribute to the buildup of suspense. The findings reveal that each episode employs a recurring narrative pattern that gradually intensifies fear through ordinary daily settings combined with supernatural occurrences. The use of first-person point of view, descriptive details, and references to local urban legends further enhances the authenticity of the stories and strengthens the emotional engagement of listeners. Key Words: Narrative analysis, Radio broadcasting, Horror, Short Story, Urban Legend
