Abstract

This research discusses the characterization of Anakin Skywalker, the main character in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith directed by George Lucas. The researcher chose Anakin as the subject because of the complexity of his emotions and the importance of his role in the story. The purpose of this study is to analyze Anakin’s character through the perspective of Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis, focusing on emotions such as anger, fear, and anxiety. The method I used is qualitative content analysis. I analyzed the film’s dialogues, categorized them into themes of anger, fear, and anxiety, and then interpreted them using Freud’s psychoanalytic theory. The data were taken from the film transcript and analyzed using character analysis. The findings show that Anakin’s emotions are strongly influenced by his past trauma and personal struggles. His anger, fear, and anxiety appear repeatedly in the dialogues and actions throughout the film, which lead him into inner conflict and unstable decisions. Through this analysis, the researcher found that these emotions are not only a reflection of his psychological condition but also the main factors that cause his transformation into Darth Vader. In conclusion, the research highlights how Anakin’s downfall can be understood as the result of unresolved trauma and emotional conflict. The study also shows that psychoanalysis provides a useful approach to explore the deeper meaning of characters in literary works, especially when dealing with themes of identity, conflict, and destiny.
