Abstract

This study examines "An Analysis of Language Style in Instagram Captions at Penthaus Cafe Bandung" based on language style. The researcher used Joos's 1967 theory, which divides language styles into five types: frozen, formal, consultative, casual, and intimate. This study aimed to analyze the language style used in Instagram captions on the @onthepenthaus account. In this study, the researcher sampled 34 caption posts. The method used was descriptive qualitative, with documentation and content analysis techniques for captions uploaded over a specific period. The results showed that the most dominant language style was casual, characterized by the use of simple sentence structures, informal greetings, slang, and emojis. Furthermore, the consultative style was also found in several captions containing invitations, announcements, or semi-formal information. No explicit use of frozen, formal, or intimate styles was found. The use of this relaxed and communicative language style serves to build rapport with the audience and create a friendly and contemporary brand image. This research is expected to contribute to the understanding of digital communication strategies through language style in social media.
