Abstract

This research entitled An Analysis of Moral Messages in Pam Coats’s Animation Film Mulan (1998). This research has purpose to finds the moral messages in Mulan (1998) film and finds how Mulan (1998) film conveyed the moral messages. The writer chooses moral message analysis because film more than just entertainment but have big potential to influence the audiences. Mulan (1998) film to be an object in this research because the interesting story who can gives positive moral messages to the audiences. Mulan (1998) film tells about a daughter (Mulan) disguises herself as male soldier to replace her father in battle war. She wants to protect her father because he is sick and she wants to prove that women can be hero. The writer conducts research by watching the Mulan (1998) film and reads the film script. The writer made this research using descriptive qualitative method through observation and document analysis in researching Mulan (1998) film. The writer uses Nurgiyantoro theory as a main theory in analyzing this film. In this research, the writer found several moral meessages that related to the kinds of moral messages categories, The total of moral messages that found in the Mulan (1998) film are 33 moral messages. The first category is the relationship between human beings and themselves, the writer found 14 moral messages. The second category, is the relationship between human beings and other, the writer found 14 moral messages, and The third category is relationship between human beings and God, the writer found 5 moral messages. The writer also found how the Mulan (1998) film conveyed the moral messages. This film conveys the moral messages in indirect ways because it presents through, verbal (dialogue) and physical (behavior, character's attitudes, the action).
