Abstract

The title of this research is “The Implementation of Cooperative Learning Method in Teaching Writing Personal Letter to Improve Students’ Writing Skills (A Study towards the 11th Grade Students of Pasundan 2 Senior High School Bandung Academic Year 2021-2022)”. The purpose of this research is to find out whether the implementation of cooperative learning method type STAD is effective or not in improving students’ writing skills. Therefore, this research aims to find out the procedure, the teaching equipment, the results and the responses toward the implementation of cooperative learning method type STAD in teaching writing personal letter. The method of this research is qualitative method and the instrument of the research is observation, test and interview. This research was carried out at the XI-MIPA 3 grade students of Pasundan 2 Senior High School Bandung. The results of this research as follows: The procedure of cooperative learning method type STAD is consisted of three stages namely, opening, main activities and closing. The main activities consist of class presentation, group activity, individual quiz, evaluation and group reward. The teaching equipment that is used such as teaching material, learning media, students’ worksheet and assessment. The students’ writing skills also improved up to 51% based on the pre-test and post-test results. And for the responses itself, most students agreed that the cooperative learning method is effective to improve their writing skills and can make the learning process more enjoyable. Based on the statement above, it can be concluded that the implementation of cooperative learning method type STAD is suitable for students to improve their writing skills.
