Abstract

This study aims to describe figurative language and the functions of figurative language contained in the Feature Profile on Kompas Newspaper January 2021. From the research conducted, the researcher found the following things. (1) The types of figurative language found in the figure features of the Feature Profile on Kompas Newspaper January 2021 2) The functions contained in the figurative language in the features of the Feature Profile on Kompas Newspaper January 2021. The data in this study are in the form of sentences containing the figurative language contained in the Feature Profile on Kompas Newspaper January 2021. The data collection method used in this study is the Simak method combined with note-taking techniques. The term Simak here is not only related to the use of spoken language, but also to the use of written language. Researchers are currently conducting research using written language, so in the process of Menyimak or reading the researchers use note-taking techniques. The data analysis method that is relevant to this research is the Agih method or the distributional method, while the technique used in this research is the mark reading technique. The researcher analyzes a sentence that has criteria for a type’s figurative language. The researcher analyzes a sentence that has criteria based on the type of figurative language. Based on the research that has been done, two things can be concluded. There are 7 types of figurative language, the total number of sentences containing the figurative language style in feature is 22 sentences. The following will explain the details of each number of language styles found 5 styles of euphemism, metaphor 1, allusion 1, climax 3, hyperbole 9, synecdoche 1, and simile 1. The functions that appear from the figurative language in feature profile on Kompas newspaper are as follows. Refine sentences totaling 21 function there are, aesthetical function 5, intensity function 3, expression function 4, concretization function 5, compaction meaning 4.
