Abstract

This study is called The Framing Models on the News of the Spread of COVID-19 in Kompas.com. The main purpose of this study is to find out how the news framing model from Kompas.com relates to the spread of COVID-19 in December 2020. Framing is a journalist's activity that packages facts from the field/event into writing in the form of news that contains information by the provisions of a particular institution, what facts are emphasized and then published, so that they can be read by the public. In essence, practicing journalists are involved in shaping the construction of reality in the mass media. The writer used qualitative method in analyzing the data. The news is analyzed using the framing theory by Robert N. Entman. There are five news that are analyzed in this study. Based on the analysis, from the five news that the author has researched, the majority of journalists raised opinions and facts from the government against people who do not comply with health protocols so that the number of victims continues to increase in December 2020. The framing in those news is quite interesting and there is several covid-19 issues are highlighted. But Journalists mostly highlight the data and viewpoints of the informants, so that the news presented is like a usual report. Keywords: Framing, COVID-19, Kompas.com, Mass Media
