Abstract

The language style is one of the elements that build the story. There are many types of language styles or commonly called figurative languages. Knowing the importance of language styles in everyday life makes it important for language styles, both in conversation and writing activities (including writing or creating stories). The understanding of figurative language requires special attention, especially to capture the true meaning that the writer wants to convey because of the confusing language in the use of figurative language forms in literature. A language will feel more beautiful and interesting if the language has undergone a stylistic process in it. The language style is referred to as language that has been mixed with stylistic elements, especially the style of speech or language style. Based on that statement above, the writer conducted a research. That is An Analysis of Simile in Lewis Carroll’s novel Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. In this research the writer has some problems. Those are how many similes and what the simile’s meaning in every sentence in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland novel. The writer gives the limitation of the problem by only analyses the meaning of similes contained in the novel. The significance of the research is expected to enrich knowledge about language style and understanding of the meaning of simile for researchers. In the research, the authors used descriptive qualitative research methods. It is a method that solves an actual problem based on the conversation, narrative, and content (description) that is conveyed. The main data that the writer analyses in the research is the sentence of phrase of the novel. Based on the research, the writer finds that the similes are used in the novel. The writer finds 21 similes to be analysed. Keyword: simile, figure of speech, novel
