Abstract

The Arab Spring phenomenon has created conflicts in several countries in the Middle East, one of which is Syria. The prolonged conflict has made hundreds of thousands of Syrians leave their homes to seek safer shelter. Good geographical proximity and economy have made Europe one of the goals of refugees. In 2015 Europe experienced a refugee crisis caused by the high flow of refugees caused by conflicts in the Middle East. Along with the increasing flow of refugees, the European Union has detected a number of immigrants entering the European territory illegally. The swift flow of refugees has put pressure on the European Union and its member states. In addressing the refugee crisis that occurred the European Union has involved Turkey in together forming the EU-Turkey Statement. This practicum aims to make readers understand how the European Union and Turkey have formed the EU- Turkey Statement as a policy framework for dealing with the refugee crisis. In this study, the author will examine the process of establishing the EU-Turkey Statement as a European Union step in dealing with the refugee crisis that occurred in Europe. The method used in this study is the Qualitative Method. Through the EU-Turkey Statement, the European Union has succeeded in reducing the high flow of refugees. But in applying the EU-Turkey Statement the European Union has ruled out humanitarian issues to refugees. Keywords: Arab Springs; refugee crisis; European Union; Turkey; EU-Tukey Statement
