Abstract
This Research is entitled “An Analysis of Patriarchal Oppression in Women at Point Zero Novel by Nawal El Saadawi”. It attempts to analyze the patriarchal oppression in the novel. Patriarchal oppression is a form of oppression that limits women's rights by a patriarchal society. Usually, the main reason of this oppression is related to privilege and poverty where the upper-class society takes a big role in it. The purpose in this research is to know how main character reflects patriarchal oppression. The researcher limits the research about patriarchal oppression by using Iris Marion Young theory of Oppression. The researcher uses a descriptive qualitative method in order to answer the research question with close reading technique to reveal the patriarchal oppression. The researcher found the data in novel Women at Point Zero by Nawal El Saadawi based on its characters, sequences of events, and conversations between the characters. The result finding indicates that there are several form oppressions that being reflected through the heroine named Firdaus. They are Exploitation, Violence, Cultural Imperialism, Marginalization. The novel is suitable either for literature study or reading activity in an intermediate to advanced English.
