Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze the tran slation method that is used by the translator in translating idiomatic phrasal verb o n Coco (2017) Movie. This research proposes a research problem 1) What is the translation method used by the translator in translating th e idiomatic phrasal verb on Unkrich’s Coco (2017) Movie based on the Newmark’s (1988) theory. So that, the objective of this research is to identify the t ranslation method used by the translator in translating the idiomatic phrasal verb that are found on Unkrich’s Coco (2017) Movie and the semantic meaning of idiomatic phrasal verb s . The method of this research use qualitative descriptive method to achieve the purpose of this research. The idiomatic phrasal verb is analyzed by using Newmark’s translation methods theory (1988) . The result of this research shows that the eight translation method s were not used by the translator in translat in g the idiomatic phrasal verb o n Coco (2017) Movie . The translation methods that are commonly used such as communicative, semantic, free and idiomatic translation method . The translator had done her best in translating the idiomatic phrasal verb into the acceptable translation by using communicative translation method because she involved the con text and also referred to semantic meaning of the idiomatic phrasal verb . Finally, the writer hopes that this research paper will be useful for those who interest in translation, and also for the further study about translation of idiomatic phrasal verb.
