Abstract
The title of this paper is “ An Analysis of English Loanword in Articles on Pikiran Rakyat Online”. Background of this topic is English language that influence Indonesian language. The objectives of this study are to find out the kinds of English loanwords and to know how the process of English loanwords formed based on PUEBI in ten articles o n Pikiran R akyat Online. This paper uses qualitative method. This method was used to understand any phenomenon about loanword. However, there are three kinds of English loanwords by using Haugen’s theory that are used in articles about technology on Pikiran Rakyat On line : English loanword without phonetic substitution, English loanword with partial phonetic substitution and English loanword with complete phonetic substitution. The writer found out 153 English loanwords taken from ten articles within three months. The largest quantity that appeared in Pikiran Rakyat ’s articles was English loanword with partial phonetic substitution. It means that Indonesian language adopted English loanwords with some changed the pronounciation to made Indonesian people little bit easie r to understand the meaning and how to applied them into daily conversation . It shows that the appearances of using English loanwords in mass media especially on Pikiran Rakyat Online are high. It proves that English loanwords are enriching Indonesian voca bularies.
