Abstract
There are many students tend to make error in constructing English sentence because the lack of English part of speech knowledge. Therefore, based on the problem mentioned, the writer decided to make this paper entitled “Error Analysis in Students’ Personal Recount.” This research is aimed to find out what kind of error the students made. This research is expected to to be a learning process and a reference for students of English Department as comparison in making other research dealing with “constructing English sentences.” The writer believes that descriptive method is the right method to do this analysis. Students’ personal recount was used as the source of the data. The writer also used some related source related to the research. From the analysis, the writer found 36 error sentences in the use of subject-verb agreement, 17 sentences found in error of double or redundant verb, 13 sentences found in error of missing verb and 6 sentences found in error of plural for singular verb (or vice versa). As the conclusion of this research, since there are 36 errors of subject-verb agreement error found in students’ personal recount, it would be more interesting if the research is expanded to analyze not only error in sentence pattern, but the whole grammatical rules.
