Abstract

This research examines how metaphors and symbols are used in Ameylia Falensia's book "00:00" to portray the idea of being apart, using a qualitative descriptiveanalytical method that blends George Lakoff and Mark Johnson's conceptual metaphor theory with Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic theory. The study shows that the writer uses a detailed symbolic arrangement that brings together symbols (like the 00:00 time, the moon, and water), indices (such as silence, coldness, and time stopping), and icons (including mirrors, pictures, and shadows) to create a deep picture of separation, cleverly weaving in ontological metaphors ("time is like a container"), orientational metaphors ("feeling sad is like being down"), and structural metaphors ("separation is like death") to form a consistent thematic meaning. The results suggest that the symbols and metaphors in "00:00" do more than just add artistic decoration; they are essential parts of the story's structure, how the characters are shown, and how the atmosphere grows, creating time and space aspects that show how the main character's mind changes and adding to modern Indonesian literature by mixing local cultural details with themes that everyone can relate to. The research determines that the book "00:00" shows progress in how modern Indonesian literature is expressed by using figurative language in a smart way to explore life's big questions, adding to research methods by giving an interdisciplinary way to look at symbolic and metaphorical parts in Indonesian literature and setting up the groundwork for more literary studies in the future. This approach not only enriches the narrative but also invites readers from various backgrounds to engage with the text on multiple levels. By bridging cultural specifics with universal themes, "00:00" exemplifies how literature can foster greater understanding and appreciation of diverse perspectives.
