Abstract

This research aims to further understand the process conducted by the institution in implementing sewing skills training at SLBN Cinta Asih. It seeks to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors, the training process itself, the role of social workers in the training, as well as the outcomes and targets achieved from the handicraft skills program. The research employs a qualitative approach, gathering data through researcher observations, interviews, and documentation. The study is conducted at SLBN Cinta Asih, located in Soreang, Kabupaten Bandung. The implementation process of the Handicraft Skills program at SLBN Cinta Asih started with the provision of specialized trainers by the school to train students in knitting classes. Over time, newly enrolled students were no longer guided by specialized trainers but were instead mentored by knitting class instructors. In this knitting class, students are guided through hands-on learning by the instructors without theoretical teachings. Although the instructors themselves learned from previous trainers, students with disabilities quickly grasp what is taught due to the direct guidance approach used in knitting classes at SLBN Cinta Asih. The students acquire knowledge and can gradually develop their potential. Some of the researcher's findings regarding the supporting and inhibiting factors in the handicraft skills program at SLBN Cinta Asih include supportive factors such as parents of students, donors, partners, and product sales, the availability of facilities and infrastructure, and the surrounding school environment. On the other hand, inhibiting factors include a lack of human resources due to the difficulty and limited number of participants in this skill, causing a lack of focus when handling a high volume of rug orders. The results of the Handicraft Skills program, specifically rug making, can be seen through the knowledge and skills acquired by the participating students in the skills class.
