Abstract

This research paper titled “An Analysis of Code Switching and Code Mixing in Boygroup Treasure’s Song Lyrics”. This research is a study on code switching and code mixing contained in the lyrics of the boy group song Treasure. Treasure is a YG Entertainment boy group that was formed by survival show YG Treasure Box. The purpose of this study is to determine the form and causes that cause code switching and code mixing. The sociolinguistic approach is used in this study, along with qualitative and descriptive research methods. According to the findings of the analysis, there are intra-sentential, inter-sentential, and tagswitching codes in the lyrics of Treasure songs. It was also discovered that there is code mixing in the form of words, phrases, clauses, and pronounciation changes in word. The lyrics of hit songs by the boy group Treasure, which has a total of 15 songs, were used as the source of data for the research. According to the data analysis findings, there are 57 types of code switching and 49 types of code mixing. According to these findings, the most common causes of code flipping are those of speakers/singers and opponents of speech/listeners. Code switching is used as well to harmonize the rhythm of the music and to underline the meaning and message delivered in the lyrics. While the factors that cause code mixing include not finding the correct word similar in each language, the impact of listeners, and the singer's desire to express the meaning and message in the song lyrics. Keywords: code switching, code mixing, sociolinguistics, song lyrics, bilingualism
