Abstract
This paper entitled “The Use of Authentic Materials in Writing Procedural Text”. The research applied was descriptive research with qualitative method as a research design since this research was conducted to describe the use of authentic materials in writing procedural text. The authentic materials that used are instant noodle and instant coffee packages. This research was conducted in English class of a junior high school in Sagalaherang, Subang. Sample of this reserach was 35 male and female students of ninth grader. The data was obtained through observation and interview. The analysis result demonstrated that authentic material was improving students’ ability in writing procedural text. In addition, there were several advantages acquired through this media, which were improving writing skills, increasing vocabulary; creating fun learning; and increasing learning motivation. Furthermore, the obstacles confronted by the students were fairly confused their assignment was impartially diverse from the text exists on the package. For the shortages of authentic materials that used in this research were not various enough and it is too simple, thus the words of text is limited. Key words : authentic materials, procedural text, teaching, writing.
