Abstract

Vocational students often meet statistics as a set of formulas, yet their own field asks them to read network data, compare services, and judge claims. This study developed SATRIA, a web-based statistics application for Grade XI students of Computer and Telecommunication Network Engineering, and examined changes in numeracy and learning motivation. SATRIA combines mastery learning, rule-based adaptive pathways, and AI hints limited to five per task that never reveal final answers. An embedded mixed methods design was used: the application was developed in three stages, reviewed by three content and three media experts, and tried out in a nonequivalent control group quasi-experiment with 32 experimental and 30 control students over six meetings. Experts supported its validity (content 94.95%, media 84.76%), and students rated it very practical (84.32% in the limited trial, 89.20% in the main use). Mean numeracy change was 54.30 points in the SATRIA class and 35.83 in the regular class, t(60) = 5.905, p < .001, d = 1.50. Motivation rose in both classes without a reliable difference between them (p = .389). Interviews and student work pointed to clearer learning pathways and better data reasoning, alongside calls for smoother network access, simpler hints, and teacher guidance.
