Abstract

The increasing use of social media among adolescents has brought various psychological dynamics, one of which relates to the way they disclose themselves in the digital space. This study employed a quantitative approach with simple linear regression analysis to examine the influence between variables. Data were collected through structured questionnaires designed to measure the dimensions of self-disclosure including intent to disclose, amount of disclosure, positive-negative nature of disclosure, control of depth, and honesty-accuracy of disclosure as well as the level of social anxiety experienced by respondents. The findingsrevealed that self-disclosure on social media has a positive and significant effect on adolescents’ social anxiety, contributing 20.8% (R2 = 0.208). Further analysis showed that intent to disclose had a relatively small effect of 3.4%, amount of disclosure 18.2%, positive-negative nature of disclosure 21.8%, control of depth 16.7%, and honesty-accuracy of disclosure the largest at 31%. These results suggest that the more honest and accurate adolescents are in disclosing themselves on social media, the higher their social anxiety, particularly due to
