Abstract

This research discusses using speech acts to convey a message within the transcription of @podcastkeselaje’s Instagram Reels. Speech acts analogise the idea of one thing to another entirely different thing without stating a comparison. The speech acts provide an imaginative support to make the language more powerful and lead the audience’s emotional thoughts. The researcher used speech act theories from Austin (1962) and Searle (1969). This research aims to portray a particular type of speech act to illustrate the eight @podcastkeselaje’s Instagram Reels with themed lip service. Essentially, the researchers employed a descriptive qualitative method because this research aims to provide a deep qualitative analysis. The findings revealed that from the 61 total speech acts in the entire eight lip service Reels in October 2024, 33 data are classified as an assertive speech act, 8 data as a directive speech act, 3 data as a commissive speech act, and 17 data as an expressive speech act. So, an assertive speech act is considered the most important data from the lip service in October 2024. As a result, the reader will be provided with a new insight from the interpretations of all Reels. Keywords: pragmatic, speech act, sarcasm, Oza, @podcastkeselaje
