Abstract

Characterization is essential as an intial introduction to the character. One of the literary works that has an amazing characterization is Alice Through The Looking Glass. Alice Through The Looking Glass is an novel whose the author is Lewiss Carrol, telling a story about Alice as she steps through a mirror into a fantastic world turned upside down. There, she meets a variety of strange characters and experiences absurd situations, including encounters with the Red Queen and various unique creatures, while exploring themes of identity and reverse logic. Based on characterization of all this character that existed in this novel, the title of this research will be “An Analysis of Suspicious Characterization In Carroll’s Alice Through The Looking Glass in Children’s Novel. The research question discussed in this research are (1) What are the suspicious characters in the novel “Alice Through The Looking Glass” and how are they potrayed by the author? (2) What role does absurdity suspicious play in shaping Alice’s understanding of identity in novel “Through The Looking Glass” by Lewiss Carroll?. In related to that, this research focusing on analyzing the characterization of all character uses Humanistic Psychology by Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow and second theory is Children Literature by C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. This research was eleven characterization of the main character, and internal and external factors that influenced the characterization development of the main character. Suspicious plays an important role in building tension and conflict in the story, as well as reflecting Alice's psychological struggle in facing a world full of mysteries and uncertainties.
