Abstract
This study discusses the adaptation of the short story The Boscombe Valley Mystery by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle into a film version released in 1968. The purpose of this research is to find out how the story changes when adapted into a film, especially in terms of its intrinsic elements such as characters, plot, setting, and dialogue. This research uses a comparative qualitative method and is based on the ecranization theory by Pamusuk Eneste. The main data used are the short story and the film, while supporting data were taken from books, journals, and previous studies. The data were analyzed by reading, watching, comparing both versions to see what was removed, added, or changed and noted. The findings reveal that reduction occurred in 1 plot element, 3 characters, 2 settings, and 1 dialogue. Addition was found in 11 plot elements, 1 character, 1 setting, and 3 dialogues. Modification appeared in 9 plot elements, 3 characters, 3 settings, and 2 dialogues. These changes show that ecranization naturally reshapes the intrinsic elements to fit the film medium, highlighting that adaptation is more of a creative transformation than a direct transfer of the original story. Keywords : Adaptation, Ecranization, Film, Intrinsic Elements, Pamusuk Eneste, The Boscombe Valley Mystery.
