Abstract
This research is entitled “Audience Reception Analysis of BTS (South Korean Male Music Group) Speech at the SDGs Moment of The 76th UN General Assembly on YouTube Social Media in 2021”. The focus of this research is the audience's decoding of BTS's speech on the SDGs Moment of the 76th UN General Assembly session on the United Nations YouTube channel in 2021. The purpose of this study is to find out how the audience's reception of BTS's speech message at the 76th UN SDGs Moment, to find out how the audience's reception of language symbols in BTS's speech broadcast at the 76th UN on the United Nations YouTube channel, and to find out how the audience's reception of BTS's audiovisual speech broadcast at the 76th UN on the United Nations YouTube channel. The research uses Stuart Hall's reception analysis theory (Encoding- Decoding Analysis). This research uses qualitative research methods with descriptive studies. The paradigm used in this research is a constructive paradigm. Data collection techniques in this research are literature study, observation, in- depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques in this qualitative research are data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. This research involved 9 informants consisting of 8 core informants (ARMY and Non-ARMY) and one expert informant as well as supporting informants for research data. There are several aspects that influence the audience's decoding process, namely ideology, perspective, knowledge/insight, as well as environmental conditions and experiences of each individual. The research results showed that the audience's reception of BTS' speech message at the 76th UN SDGs Moment gave rise to the Dominant-hegemonic position category with a total of 8 informants. Then, the audience's reception of the language symbol in the broadcast of BTS's speech at the 76th UN on the United Nations YouTube channel gave rise to the category of Dominant-hegemonic position with a total of 8 informants. Lastly, the audience's reception of BTS's audiovisual speech at the 76th UN on the United Nations YouTube channel gave rise to various position categories, namely the Dominant-hegemonic position category as many as 1 person, the Negotiation position category as many as 3 people, and the Opposition position category as many as 4 informants.
