Abstract

This study examines the types and meanings of slang found in the novel “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before.” The researchers aim to identify these types and their meanings by analyzing character dialogues. They used theories from Allan & Burridge (2006) and Geoffrey Leech (1981) research, gathering data through qualitative methods and library research. They identified 33 slang instances, including 5 fresh and creative words, 6 flippant words, 11 imitative words, 8 acronyms, and 3 clapping words. The slang words have various meaning such as affective, social, reflective, connotative, collocative, thematic, and conceptual meaning. The usage of slang in this novel serves not only as a linguistics feature that mirrors the everyday language of teenagers but also enchances characters development and interactions between them. Key words : slang words, the types and meaning of slang words.
