Abstract

This study, entitled "An Analysis of Slang Words in The Lorax Movie," was conducted to analyze the slang words that appear in the movie. The researcher was required to identify and resolve three problems; To find out types of slang words are used in The Lorax Movie, to find out what are the meaning of the slang words that are used, to find out hat is the function of the slang words. The research methodology employed is qualitative with the document analysis. This method is used to identify and analyze the slang words present in the dialogue. A total of five types of slang were identified based on the Allan and Burridge theory (fresh and creative, flippant, imitative, acronym and clipping). The researcher found four of the types in the research object, including fresh and creative, flippant, imitative and clipping, with a total of 29 data points. In addition, the researcher's findings indicate that slang words have a variety of functions including ones classified by Yanchun and Yanhong theory; pursuit of self�identity, emotive feeling of the slang users, achieving politeness. Therefore, the reader will gain a new understanding of the slang that is used in the context of the animated movie. Keywords: Language, Slang Words, Slang types, Movie, The Lorax
