Abstract

Figurative language is a style of language that is used to beautify a sentence. Not only in poetry and songs, figurative language is also often used in news titles. This research paper entitled “An Analysis of Figurative Language in the News Title of IDN Times.com World Cup Channel.” The research aims to analyze the figurative language found in IDN Times.com news titles, especially about the types and functions of figurative language that contained in news titles of IDN Times.com. The research question discussed in this research are (1) What types of figurative language are found in news title of IDN Times.com World Cup Channel December 2022 Edition (2) What are the functions of figurative languages contained in news titles of IDN Times.com World Cup Channel December 2022 Edition. The collecting the data, the researcher used the descriptive qualitative method by doing several ways such as: reading news titles, classified news titles based to the figurative language type, and write down the news titles. The result of this analysis the researcher found that are 4 types of figurative language in IDN Times.com, included: 25 Metaphor, 3 personification, 1 simile, and 10 hyperboles.
