Abstract

This research paper is entitled An Analysis on Psychological Conflicts of the Main Character of Amalia`s Novel: Represi. The objective of the research is to find out and described the psychological conflict that are experienced by the main character in the novel. The main character in this novel experienced traumatic even in childhood and adulthood. The writer used psychology literature approach used Sigmund Freud personality theory Id, Ego, and Superego to analyse this research. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The techniques of data collection used reading and note-taking technique. The source of the data in this research is Amalia`s Novel: Represi. The results of this research showed what the characteristics and psychological conflicts of the main character. Related to characteristics of the main character are friendly, obedient, independent, sensitive, cheerful, mischievous, stubborn, and dishonest. And also there are five of the psychological conflicts of the main character are depression, anxiety, disappointment, desperate, and remorse. The main character experienced sexual abuse in childhood and adulthood that caused post traumatic symptoms disorder in her life. She used defence mechanism of repression to push threatening impulses out of consciousness. The main character resolves her conflicts by accepting the reality and forgiving the people who have been hurt her. Key words: novel, psychological conflict, repression
