Abstract
iv Abstract The research paper is entitled “Traumatic Experiences in the Main Character of Kurniawan’s “Seperti Dendam, Rindu Harus Dibayar Tuntas” this study aims to identify the symptom of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) that are undergone by Ajo Kawir. The analysis is done through dissection of plot that has three stage of plot, such as, Initial Stage, Middle Stage and Final Stage based on theories of Robert Stanton (2012), and for the identifying and interpretation of post-traumatic stress disorder that also has three of symptoms of PTSD such as, Intrusive Symptoms, Avoidance Symptoms, and Arousal Symptoms based on theory of Flannery R,B Jr (1999). This study uses qualitative methods and psychological approach in descriptive analysis to obtain and analyse the data. In this research, the writer have to find out the plot of this novel, that has three stages through taking notes the dialogue or the narrations. There are three steps taken by the writer in analyzing the data, which are, reading and observing the novel, include plot using Stanton (2012:21) theory, Identifying of symptoms post-traumatic stress disorder from theory of Flannery (1999:78), Classifying the data on symptoms post-traumatic stress disorder by the main character based on the three types of symptoms such as Intrusive symptoms, avoidance symptoms, and arousal symptoms by Flannery (1999:78). From the data that has been classified, the writer found 4 data for Initial Stage, 2 data for Middle Stage and 2 data for Final Stage. with a total of 8 data found for the plot section in the author's research. In addition, for data in the Symptoms of PTSD section, the author found 11 data which are divided into three types of symptoms, including, 2 data for Intrusive Symptom, 5 data for Avoidance Symptom and 4 data for Arousal Symptom. From the findings of the symptoms that appear in the character Ajo Kawir, it is known that Ajo Kawir is dominated by Avoidance Symptom.
