Abstract

This research paper is entitled An Analysis of Characters and Characterization on Damono’s Novel Hujan Bulan Juni. The novel released in 2015 tells about the love story of Sarwono and Pingkan. The objective of the research is to find out and described the characteristics and how the author conveyed the characterization of the characters in the novel. The writer decided to analyse characteristic and characterization because character is one of the most important element in a novel. The writer used Lajos’ three dimensions which are Physiological, Sociological, and Psychological dimension to analyse the characteristics of the characters. To find out the characterization of the characters, the writer used Minderop’s theory. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The techniques of data collection used reading and note-taking technique. The source of the data in this research is Damono’s Hujan Bulan Juni novel. The results of this research showed what the characteristics and characterization of the characters. Related to characteristics of the main character which is Sarwono are hardworking, kind, and humourist. And for the other character which is Pingkan, her characteristics are smart and hardworking person. Both of the characters’ characterization are conveyed using direct and indirect characterization method by the author of the novel. Through the results of this paper, the writer hopes that the readers are expected to be able to obtain information about the characteristic and characterization of the characters in Hujan Bulan Juni novel by Damono.
