Abstract

The research paper entitled “Representation of Racism in Star’s Emily in Paris”. The content written in this research paper is about the Racism against Emily’s Character in Emily in Paris Movie series. The reason why the writer chooses this Emily in Paris movie is because the writer want to raise the issue of the injustice experienced to make the public more aware of the rights of someone as well. This act of racism is influenced by the different cultural backgrounds between America and France perspective in seeing how things should be done. The French people's offense to Emily who incidentally only uses English. This paper contained of three level of racism based on Bowser racism theory. In this study, the writer used the media text analysis method with a descriptive qualitative method, then the research was analyzed using Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis. The results of this study are the representation of racism by a person with a different ethnic, culture, and personality. This research is recommended to further researchers and the public in general so that this research can be further developed. Keywords: Representation, Racism, Prejudice, Race/Ethnicity, Semiotic.
