Abstract

This research paper is entitled “An Analysis of Figurative Language on Hasan Aspahani’s Collected Poems Lelaki Yang Dicintai Bidadari.” This study intends to find out what figurative languages that are used in the poem and analyze the meaning semantically. The writer uses qualitative-descriptive research method. The main sources of the data are ten poems from Hasan Aspahani’s collected poems. In collecting the data, a mode used to collect the data in this research is predominantly a documentary study. In the art of making a poem, involvement of figurative languages is essential to make it impressive. Various type of them are used in poems; metaphor is one of the most used figurative language, since it works with any kind of genre. This figurative language is mostly used because of its easy implementation since its only relies on two comparison of object which resemble or contradict each other. The relationship between a romantic poetry with metaphor figurative language is because the romantically involved literary work mainly constructed with means to impress the reader through comparisons intended to flirt with the readers direct or vice versa. In addition, poems are not only about the figurative languages but also their meaning in a connotative way. It is a common sense to not take every meaning in the poems literally as it will not make any sense. The linkage between poems and connotative meaning is to give poems a distinguishable feature and specific character than any other literary arts such as novels and short story.
