Abstract

This thesis talked about how the signs and objects, which can find out of masculines representation in the main character in Brave film. The object of this research is a female main character in the film, namely Merida. The goal of this research was to portray masculinity in the main character, utilizing A.J. Greimas "Actant and Functional Structure" theory, also seeking the quality of masculinity representation in the main character. This is a descriptive qualitative research. According to the findings of the masculinity representation, there are eight classes of what is commonly referred to as masculinity in men. This demonstrates that masculinity and femininity are two gender classification concepts that can be used interchangeably. That is to say, women can be masculine and men can be feminine, depending on the culture. Merida, the protagonist in this film, is portrayed as a masculine woman who is courageous, powerful, uncompromising, confident, independent, and even acts as a leader.
